Household Details
This section reflects the previous release and will be updated soon. If you need to use this feature before documentation is updated, please reach out to your Client Success Representative or Technical Solutions Architect.
This section doesn't appear if configuration isn't set up to use Households or if the user doesn't have the correct permissions.
The Household Details section allows an agent, on behalf of a member, to set up a household (combining rewards point balances) with a primary and one or more secondary members. Typically, the primary member can see the details for all household members and secondary members can see only their own information, but this is based on privileges set on the Householding page. A member can belong to only one household, whether as the primary or secondary member, because their rewards are made available to that household.
On redemption, the redeemed rewards points are withdrawn from member balances in one of two ways, depending on configuration:
- Proportionally: For example, if three members (A, B, and C) have respective balances of 3 million, 2 million, and 1 million points, and 3 million points are redeemed, then A contributes 1.5 million points, B contributes 1 million points, and C contributes 500,000 points. If the redemption logic is set to PROPORTIONAL (the default), each member in the household contributes in proportion to the points they have brought to the household's total redeemable balance. If one or more members don't have a redeemable balance (zero redeemable points), the redeemed points are contributed proportionally by the remaining members.
- By defined request: The primary member or head of household designates, through a user interface, how many points to contribute to the redemption from each specific member. This allows the primary member to control how points are drawn from member accounts. If the redemption logic is set to REQUEST_DEFINED, a secondary member with the appropriate privileges can also redeem points, but only from their own account.
A daily limit on redemption may be configured for members of a household, as it may be for individual members. For example, there may be a configured limit on how many points a member can redeem per day. If applicable, this limit or "cap" is displayed in the Redeemable Household Balance and Redeemable Value, and as long as points are available (more than the cap), the limit applies to each member of the household.
In addition, some products in the product catalogue can be excluded from the daily redemption cap (see Redemption Identifiers and Redemption Catalogue for more information).
If a member account that is part of the household has a negative balance, that balance is subtracted from the available household balance, which may also reduce the redeemable household balance and redeemable value depending on the relative balances.
If a secondary member leaves a household, the remainder of the household continues without that member's point balance for redemptions. If a primary member leaves a household, the household is disbanded and all points are returned to each member of the household.
To set up a household by inviting other members from the primary member's page, navigate to the member page (Membership > Member Search, search for and open the member's page), then scroll down and expand the Household Details section. You can invite other members from there (see the procedures below).
View the details for a household
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page.
- Click the Household Details section to expand it. The details shown depend on the permissions assigned to the current member. Typically, primary members can see information for all members, and each member can see their own information. However, this is configurable.
Set up a household
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search to find the member who will be the primary member of the household. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page. Note that the balances shown at the top of the page currently apply to this member only.
- Click the Household Details section to expand it. The section indicates that the current member isn't a member of any household. After completing this procedure, the current member becomes the primary member of the household.
- Click Invite Member. Enter a card number or email address for a secondary member of the household, then click Search. The agent search, including the parameters used, is included in an audit trail so that searches can be reviewed.
- Under the Action column, click the Invite button to begin the process of inviting the secondary member. If you invite a member who is already part of a household (IN HOUSEHOLD = Yes), you'll see an error message — a member can't be added more than once or to more than one household.
- In the confirmation window, click Invite to invite the first secondary member to the household.
- After processing completes, a message confirms that the procedure was successful. The primary member of the household is shown in the Household Details section. Secondary members are only shown once they have accepted their invitation to join the household. The Contribution value shown is the redeemable balance in dollars.
- Repeat the process from step 3 to add more secondary members to the household. Either the primary member or (depending on configuration) any secondary member can invite additional members. After they have accepted, refresh the page to see the secondary member(s) shown in the Household Details section of all household members.
The balances shown on the page are now cumulative balances for the household.
- If the primary member isn't yet seeing a secondary member in their Household Details section, the invitee can be searched again to check whether the invitation is still pending.
Accept an invitation to a household (for the invited secondary member)
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page.
- Click the Household Details section to expand it. If there is a pending invitation to become a secondary member of a household, it is shown here.
- To accept the invitation, click Accept, then click Accept again in the confirmation window. The secondary member's information is shown in the Household Details section (depending on permissions).
The balances shown on the page are now cumulative balances for the household.
The secondary member is now also shown in the Household Details section of the primary member's page.
Decline an invitation to a household (for the invited secondary member)
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page.
- Click the Household Details section to expand it. If there is a pending invitation to become a secondary member of a household, it is shown here.
- To decline the invitation, click Decline, then click Accept in the confirmation window. A message confirms that the secondary member has successfully declined the invitation.
Leave a household (as a secondary member)
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page.
- Click the Household Details section to expand it.
- Click Leave Household, then click Accept in the confirmation window. A message confirms that the member has been successfully removed from the household. Their household information no longer appears in their own Household Details section or in that of the primary member, and their status is updated to reflect that they don't belong to a household. Their point balances revert to being theirs alone.
Leave a household (as a primary member) and disband the household
When the primary member leaves a household, the household is disbanded and each member's points are once again available to them alone.
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page.
- Click the Household Details section to expand it.
- Click Leave Household, then click Accept in the confirmation window. A message confirms that the household has been disbanded. All members leave the household with their respective point balances. Their household information no longer appears in their own Household Details section or in that of the primary member, and all members have the status of not belonging to a household.
View a transaction for a household redemption (from a member's page)
- From the top menu of the Console, select Membership > Member Search. Select any option, enter a valid value, and click Search. Click the record returned to open the member details page.
- Click the Transactions tab to expand that section.
- Find a transaction related to a redemption for the household (this is usually a transaction with a Finalize or another session-closing transaction type).
- Expand the transaction and view the details. The transaction includes information about the redemption and the contributors from the household. The details in this view vary slightly depending on whether the member was the initiator of the transaction and whether they were a contributor.
