Banners
This feature may not be available in your version of Console depending on configuration.
Banners enable loyalty marketers to set up and target static content to loyalty members in digital channels. This content typically consists of an image, description text, and click-through links, and is used to promote marketing initiatives or inform members about various topics.
A banner may be used on a web page or in a marketing email to allow a member to accept, apply, or discard an offer. Banners are customized to client specifications and can be sized for different form factors (website, tablet, or mobile) if required.
Options for creating and managing banners include:
- Navigating to banners
- Searching for an existing banner
- Filtering banners
- Viewing, editing, or exporting banners
- Creating banners
- Creating banners using SMS subscription targeting
- Duplicating or deleting a banner
- Exporting banner views
Navigate to Banners
To navigate to the Banners page:
- If business units aren't used, select Promotions > Banners. The Banners page opens.
- If business units are used, select Promotions > Banners > Business Unit, where Business Unit is replaced by the name of the relevant subsidiary or division.
Banners may be specific to a particular business unit (such as a division or subsidiary) of a larger business entity. If so, you must first select the business unit to access the correct banners.
After selecting the business unit, the banner Search or Create page opens.
Search for an Existing Banner
Use the search function on the Banners page to search for a specific existing banner by banner ID or banner name.
To search for an existing banner:
- Navigate to Promotions > Banners.
- In the Search by Banner ID or Banner Name field, enter a banner name. Matching banners appear in the list. If no results are found, a message indicates that the banner doesn't exist.
Filter Banners
The filter lets you view only the banners that match the criteria you select. You can use one filter or several to define which banners you want to see.
To filter the banners in the list:
-
Click the Advanced Filtering button.
-
Select values for one or more of the following filters:
- Market Status: The value may be set to: Live (currently active), Expired (past the end date), Future (before the start date), Disabled (set to non-active), Inactive (never activated), or All.
- Start Date: Set the filter to Greater Than, In Between, or Less Than, then set a date using the calendar button. If you select In Between, you must select a second date as the end of the range.
- End Date: Set the filter to Greater Than, In Between, or Less Than, then set a date using the calendar button. If you select In Between, you must select a second date as the end of the range.
- Last Edited: Set the filter to Greater Than, In Between, or Less Than, then set a date using the calendar button. If you select In Between, you must select a second date as the end of the range.
-
Click Apply. Banners matching your criteria are shown in the list.
-
To clear the filters, click Clear in the filter window, then click Cancel.
View, edit, or export banners
When you arrive on the Banners page, all existing banners are listed (across additional pages if needed). You can scan the banners and open an existing one to view or edit its settings. Not all fields can be edited — only those that aren't greyed out.
View or edit existing banners
- Scroll down the banners list. Use the page numbers or Previous/Next controls at the bottom of the page to view additional pages.
- To show more or fewer banners on the page, select a different setting in the Show list.
- To view a specific banner, select its banner ID.
- Change any editable settings, including the banner name, copy and creative (including language), metadata, and audience targeting.
- Click the Next button to navigate through the steps then click Save and Publish when done. The banner is saved with the changes.
note
The option to add a localization isn't available if the banner is expired.
The Export View button lets you export data for all banners currently shown on the Banners page.
To export data for existing banners in the current list:
- Click Export View.
- Click Open to open the file, or click Save As, select a target directory, and click Save to save the file in CSV format.
Create a Banner
Using the Console, you can create a wide range of banners, from simple to complex.
To create a banner, click +Banner on the Banners page. The banner builder opens.
Internal Identifiers Section
The first section is Internal Identifiers, which includes the business unit, banner ID, and banner name. The business unit is filled in automatically and can't be edited. Note: The business unit field doesn't appear if your company doesn't use this feature.
To complete the Internal Identifiers section:
- Enter the banner ID. The banner ID must use 3 to 128 alphanumeric characters and underscores only.
- Enter the banner name. The banner name must use 3 to 128 alphanumeric characters, allowed symbols (.@+-$&'), French letters, and spaces.
Scheduling Section
The Scheduling section is where you set when the banner will be available.
To set up scheduling:
- Click the calendar button to select a start date and time for the banner, then click OK.
- Click the calendar button to select an end date and time (or select Banner does not expire if you don't want it to expire), then click OK.
- If the time zone is selectable, choose the appropriate time zone. Note that this isn't selectable in some configurations.
Copy and Creative Section
The Copy and Creative section is where you enter the text, images, and content for the banner.
To fill in the Copy and Creative section:
- Optionally, provide Alternative Text to be displayed when the member's cursor hovers over the banner, for assisted reading devices, or if the image doesn't render. This text should adequately describe the function of the banner. Depending on configuration, this field may be optional.
- Enter a Description for the banner. The description must be between 8 and 2,048 characters long.
- In the next four fields, enter the URLs for the various image versions associated with this banner. All URLs must be properly formatted — these fields are validated for formatting. Note: If URL whitelist validation is enabled for your Console, only images from approved URLs can be used — otherwise, validation errors appear and you won't be able to save drafts or publish the banner. Contact your Program Manager or Technology Solutions Architect (TSA) for more information.
- Enter the Banner Link — the URL pointing to the banner content. Depending on configuration, this field may be optional.
- If required, select an additional language from the dropdown and click French (CA) to add a second language. Fill in the same fields for the new language using localized content.
- If the Console supports additional languages, repeat the same process for each: select the language and add the localized content.
Targeting Section
The Targeting section determines whether the banner is available to everyone or targeted to a specific audience.
- Everyone: A mass banner available to any member who logs into the website or app.
- Specific Audience: A targeted banner available only to a defined subset of members. Targeting is set up using a query based on attributes from a dropdown menu. These attributes are configured in the extended member data table and can be determined by the client.
If you want to target members based on SMS subscription status, see Creating a Banner Using SMS Subscription Status Targeting.
To set banner targeting for Everyone:
Select Everyone.
To set banner targeting for a specific audience:
- Select Specific Audience, then set up the targeting query. To view the JSON produced by your query settings, select Enable query preview. The JSON updates dynamically below the query settings, which is useful for tracking conditions and relationships in complex queries.
- If using multiple query conditions, select AND or OR to define the relationship between them. For example, select AND if you want the age to be greater than 60 and the gender to be Female. Select OR if you want the age to be less than 25 or greater than 55. OR is the default setting.
- Click Add condition to build your query by selecting categories, operators, and values. Press Enter after selecting each value to ensure the query is populated correctly.
- Click Add group to add conditions with a different AND/OR relationship to those already defined. Select AND or OR and continue adding query terms.
- Click Delete to remove any conditions or groups you no longer need.
- Click Preview Target Count to see the estimated number of members that would be targeted by this banner.
Metadata Section
Enter a Priority (Rank) between 1 and 9 to prioritize the banner among those presented to members. The number 1 represents the highest priority.
Banner Management Controls
Once you've entered all the settings for the banner, use the banner management controls on the bottom toolbar to save, preview, publish, or cancel the banner.
- To save a draft, click Save Draft. If there are errors, a message prompts you to fix them before saving again. A message confirms that the draft has been saved.
- To publish the final version, click Save and Publish, then click Accept in the confirmation window. A message confirms that the banner has been published.
- To cancel and discard the banner, click Cancel, then Discard Changes in the confirmation box.
caution
Clicking Discard Changes permanently abandons the banner creation process and all entries, and returns you to the Search or Create page.
- To view a summary of the banner, click Preview. If you're using multiple languages for copy and creative, you can select a language from the dropdown in the preview window to view content for that language.
Create a Banner Using SMS Subscription Status Targeting
To create a banner targeted to members with one or more SMS subscription statuses, follow the Creating a Banner process above, with the following changes in the Details section.
An SMS subscription can't be created if the member doesn't have a phone number saved in their profile.
To select settings in the Details section for SMS subscription status targeting:
-
In the Targeting > Audience Targeting step for modifying a banner, select Specific Audience, then set up the targeting query.
-
Select Add Condition, then in the first dropdown, select SMS Subscription Status.
-
Choose Equal or Not Equal to target a single SMS subscription status, then Enter the status in the input box.
-
To target multiple statuses, choose In or Not In, then type each status name (Pending, Opted In, or Opted Out) in the field next to the operator, pressing Enter after each entry.
-
To view the JSON produced by your query settings, select Show query preview. The JSON updates dynamically and is useful for tracking conditions in complex queries.
-
If using multiple query conditions, select AND or OR to define the relationship between them. OR is the default setting.
-
Click + Add Condition to build your query by selecting categories, operators, and values. Press Enter after selecting each value.
-
Click + Add Group to add conditions with a different AND/OR relationship. Select AND or OR and continue adding query terms.
-
Click the delete icon () to remove any conditions or groups you no longer need.
-
Click Preview Targeting to see the estimated number of members that would be targeted.
-
Complete all other settings as described in the Creating a Banner procedure.
Duplicate or Delete a Banner
Use the Actions dropdown in the last column to duplicate, view, or delete a banner.
Duplicate a banner
- From the Actions dropdown for a banner, select Duplicate.
- Confirm the correct banner name is entered, then click Save and Continue.
- The copied banner opens for editing. Enter a banner ID (3 to 128 alphanumeric characters and underscores only).
- Make any other required edits to the editable (not greyed out) fields.
- Click Save Draft or Save and Publish. If publishing, click Accept to confirm. A message confirms completion. The banner includes any localization settings and localized text from the original, for both draft and published duplicates, as long as the original banner isn't expired.
Delete a banner
- From the Actions dropdown for a banner, select Delete.
- In the confirmation window, click Delete Banner. The banner is deleted and you are returned to the Search and Create page. A message confirms the deletion.
Export Banner Views
The Export Results button lets you export data and values for all banners currently shown on the Search and Create page.
The exported data includes the banner name and ID, business unit (if applicable), start and end dates, alternative text, banner link, description, small and large image links (including HD versions), priority value, market status, user targeting logic identifier, member eligibility (such as Specific Audience or Everyone), marketing status (for example, Expired), and whether the banner is in draft or published state.
To export data for existing banners in the current list:
- Click Export Results.
- Click Open to open the file, or click Save As, select a target directory, and click Save to save the file in CSV format.
